The Program
The Millcreek Day Treatment Program is designed to provide assessment and treatment of emotionally disabled children (6-12 years) and adolescents (13-21 years) who could benefit from more intense services than outpatient, but do not require 24 hour inpatient treatment. The emphasis of this structured intensive outpatient treatment is the reintegration of the child/adolescent back into the community. Treatment combines the behavioral and psychodynamic principles and focuses on working with the patient, family, and community to create a thorough understanding of the patient’s illness and provide the tools to reduce/eliminate the need for hospitalization
Program Hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30a.m.- 4:00p.m. Crisis management is provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Treatment
We believe a critical aspect of treatment for children/adolescents is the building of positive relationships. The staff serve as positive role models creating an environment in which the patient can learn trust and feel safe in expressing themselves. We seek to promote self-reliance, personal responsibility and problem solving through the adaptation of new coping strategies.
We believe that the involvement of the family is essential. The staff works with the family to assist in enhancing their ability to nurture and support the patient
The therapeutic milieu is the setting in which patients, staff and family members interact to effectively improve the patient’s level of functioning. To successfully treat the patient, the milieu must provide a structure that incorporates consistency and safety. It enhances the developmental tasks of this population which involves school activities and peer interactions. Individual treatment approaches ensure each patient will experience a level of success within a therapeutic milieu. The therapeutic milieu is maintained by addressing the needs of the program and insuring effective communication among staff, parents, patients and physicians. This is accomplished in a variety of way s including weekly Treatment Team meetings, written documentation and daily staff communication and family contacts.
