Millcreek Behavioral Health has been providing behavioral health and educational services to emotionally disturbed and developmentally delayed children and adolescents in the state of Mississippi for over 30 years. It is the largest private provider for children and adolescents in the state. Millcreek Behavioral Health was the first provider of child and adolescent services in Mississippi to receive Joint Commission accreditation in the areas of long term care for mental illness, mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
In 1976, an Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded (ICF/MR) was established in Magee. In February of 1990, due to an urgent need for long term psychiatric services in the state of Mississippi, Millcreek opened the first Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) in the state of Mississippi. Day Treatment services for the emotionally disturbed and developmentally delayed were opened in 1994.
In November 1999, a 12-bed Therapeutic Group Home that provides long term care for male adolescents with serious emotional disturbances was added to Millcreek’s continuum of care. Another 10-bed Therapeutic Group Home was opened in January 2003. In February 2006, Millcreek Behavioral Health opened the first satellite Day Treatment program in Meadville, Mississippi. A second satellite program was opened spring 2007 in Poplarville, Mississippi which was relocated to Gulfport, Mississippi in January 2009.
In addition, Millcreek provides an array of community based services and support under the Home and Community Based Services Mental Retardation/Developmental Disabilities (MR/DD) Wavier Program administered by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health (DMH). Services and supports are provided to eligible individuals and their families to enable individuals to remain with their families or return to their community from a congregate care setting. Services include: respite care, behavior support/intervention, attendant care, therapy services, supported employment, residential habilitation, day habilitation and prevocational services.
In May of 2000, Millcreek of Pontotoc opened a 48-bed Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility to meet the tremendous needs for both behavioral health and educational services for emotionally disturbed children and adolescents in North Mississippi. In 2002, Millcreek of Pontotoc added three licensed beds which increased the capacity of the PRTF to 51 beds. Day Treatment services are also provided and offer an additional continuum of care at Pontotoc. All of the children are served at Millcreek School of Pontotoc which is located on the main campus.
In 2004, a satellite Day Treatment Program for children and adolescents was opened in Batesville, Mississippi. In 2005, a second Day Treatment Program
for children and adolescents was opened in Starkville, MS and in 2006, a third Day Treatment Program was opened in Greenville, MS and a fourth Day Treatment was opened in Ripley, MS. Currently Millcreek of Pontotoc is serving over 94 children and adolescents in these outpatient settings.
Millcreek of Pontotoc also provides intensive services to children and families in the Day Treatment setting through the Medicaid program, Expanded Early Prevention, Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) program.
Millcreek of Mississippi serves a total of over 885 children, adolescents, and adults each day.
